The Qalam School began with a simple idea: that the most lasting tribute to our parents would be something that kept giving long after they were gone. Almas and Abdul Qadir spent their lives in service. We built a free school in their memory — a sadaqa-e-jaria, a perpetual charity, whose reward goes on as long as a child is being taught.
We opened our doors in July 2010 with a handful of students and one room. Today we educate hundreds of children from preschool through high school, feed them a hot meal every day, look after their health, and support those who reach college.
The school is led by our principal, Maliha Sikander, with a dedicated faculty and a robust administrative team. None of this would be possible without the generosity of our sponsors and donors, many of whom have stayed with their students for years.
