The Qalam School sits on the outskirts of Rawalpindi in Gulistan Colony, behind Ayub Park, off the Grand Trunk Road. We chose this location because it is where the children are. Parts of the neighbourhood are made up of the kind of shack-type dwellings the rest of the city tries not to see — and the families inside them needed a school they could actually reach.
